Business Catalyst End of life announcement - find out more details.

Using the Site Map module you can arrange your website's pages in a tree like structure in order to better organize the content. The structure created in the Site Map panel is also used for the { module_breadcrumbs } module. Adding breadcrumbs to your website is especially useful when you have a large number of pages. Take a look at this article by Jacob Gube for a closer look at breadcrumbs.

This feature is not related to the sitemap.xml XML feed. The XML sitemap is enabled on a site by default. See Business Catalyst Blog - March 2012 release .

Organizing your webpages

  1. Define the page hierarchy of your site by selecting Site Settings > Site Map and then dragging pages in the tree structure.

  2. Click the Add Sitemap to a Web Page button.
  3. Open the target page in editing mode by clicking the page in the tree view.
  4. Place the cursor in the content editor where you want to insert the sitemap. From the 1-Click Insert menu, select Insert this: Sitemap.

Business Catalyst inserts the sitemap's HTML into the page as a simple unordered list:

  5. Click Save or Save & Publish.

Note: The sitemap is not inserted as a dynamic module. Every time you make updates to the page hierarchy or add or delete new pages from your website, make sure to reinsert the sitemap in the page.

Insert the breadcrumbs module

The breadcrumbs module is usually inserted into page templates. To add the breadcrumbs module to your template follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Site Manager -> Page Templates and open up one of your templates
  2. In the Toolbox, select Site Modules > Pages
  3. From the Insert Module panel choose Breadcrumbs.
